Greeting card.

I decide to do a Raya card and a Happy Birthday card. I was inspired by a design i saw on google to do the rainbow design. I know i couldnt draw a mosque so i when to Masjid Wilayah to take pictures then when home a edit it on y laptop and print it out on a cardboard. I know my drawing is abit childish but i was trying to make it as simple but cute at the same time. I did the envelope while watching a football match between Malaysia and Vietnam at a mamak stall and i spend almost an hour trying to do the caligraphy writing. For the happy Birthday card i got the idea from a card that ive made before for my mom's birthday. This time i try and make it more solid and hard. I use watercolour paper and wrap it with gift rapper the pasted another watercolour paper to decorate it. For the envelope i just doodle and draw for fun. I didnt expect it to be nicer then the card.

Colour Wheel

Group Members: Amer, Madina, Yong and Kenny.

The first week we started making the tiki using modeling clay. We didnt use any picture to refer too. All the tiki was design based on our creative and images that we remember while watch Finding Nemo and Lilo & Stich. We then put a layer of PVA glue so that the paint will stay the same colour and not fade away after a long time. First we coated with white paint then only we painted the colours. A week after that we outline it with silver marker. About few days before presentation date Yong came up with the idea of building a stage/platform. We bought the materials and work with it for a few hours and then we all just sat down and think of ways to make it more interesting. Working together was really fun. We all compromise each other and there was no arguments.  In the end were happy to get good feedback from Ms. Lisa.

Rules of 3rd

The video was made in 5 hours of taking footage and a few week of video editing. i choose to do stop motion because i wanted to try something new. Im use to taking time-lapse photography so stop motion was similiar but it needed more accuracy when doing it. I took more then 2000 photos to complete the video. I could took more pictures and made the video longer and more creative but since  i was dealing with cooking, fire and etc. i did not want to risk it. I also could had made the video more interesting but since we had to use the black board as a guide frame it was tiring and hard to continue. Overall i had fun doing it and also eating the final outcome.

Week 9

2nd October 2014 (Week 9)

Principles Of Design
Assignment 2A : Composition Principle Of Design

Lecture:
Class started with Ms Lisa straight started the class by reviewing out work on assignment 2A. Most of us did well and had beautiful artwork. I was amaze by most of the artwork because 1) it was done by hand. 2) i know most of them did at the very last minute. So imagine what they could had done if they started earlier. After giving a general feedback on all our artwork, she continue her lecture that explain our next assignment.

Instructions: Assignment 2A (Composition Principle Of Design)
Having learned that Principles Of Design so now its time to apply them and create 6 different design obeying the main principle of design.

Instructions:

Results:

Dominance

1

Step 1: Started off by creating a 8x12 sheet because that was the size of an A4 paper. then i fill in a neutral colour i always start with which was light sky blue and created a triangle in the middle of the paper. I then adjusted the size and started doing the lines.

Step 2: The line were done individually and repeated. The length and portion was adjusted according to the rhythm. This took the most time (2 Weeks) as i didnt work continuously.

Step 3: I added a circle in the last minute to make the triangle stand out even more. Then i create a border and fill it with dark grey. Later i fill the blue background with pure red and a yellow in the circle area as i was watching iron-man at the time.

Repetition

2

Step 1: I when on google images and find few interesting background to make it as the inner pattern. My idea was to create a repetition of the letter A and fill in those chosen pattern in the letter.

Step 2: I find a suitable front that had good space in the front to make the detail in the deign visible. I use the stamp pattern tool in photoshop to clone the chosen background and cover the letter. There is a easier way to fill in the letter with the chosen background actually.

Step 3: Later then i just arrange the later. I didnt want to make it to small then i didnt want the letter to look small when i print it out because i want the detail in the design to be seen clearly.

Contrast

3

Step 1: I fill half the paper with red and the other half pure white then i did a black line border.

Step 2: I know you dont like 1D Ms Lisa but I had to do it anyway. LOL. I position the words like that to show contrast the the 2 words. From this point it looks like the ink in the word "One" was dripping into the bottom half of the paper then the white part of the paper was dripping down creating the word "Direction".

Balance

4

Step 1: I stared just by choosing a random colour as the background then creating random blocks on only 1 side of the paper. Then fill up those block with a contra colour.

Step 2: After finishing half the paper, I then just duplicate all the shapes to the other side to create the feel of symmetry. The i added the sun in the middle for some reason the clear out the middle part guided by the grids that i made earlier.

Unity

5

Step 1: This was maybe the most simple design because i didnt had much idea about it. Just picking a colour and finding the common tone and then fill up in the boxes that ive design.

Step 2: I measured the boxes to 1cm each and then added a horizontal line to make 2 different colours.

Scale & Proportion

Step 1: I did few shades of blue first then added a curve line to make it look like a wave effect. The i added white circles to make a bubble impression. I didnt know why but the circles got pixelated as it got bigger.

Step 2: Then i did a bigger circle at the bottom to look like a diver and added different tone to make it look more interesting.

Step 3: To make it look like a sea evenmore. I added a sun and did the same thing like what i did to the diver which was added multiple tones to make it look more interesting.

100 Words Synopsis:

I began with looking at the samples that Ms Lisa gave us then i tried to mix and match those ideas to come up with a new design. I was lucky enough to had come up with a few ideas with help of Astro. Doesnt sound right but I got few idea while watching TV and that motivate me to create something new. Some of my design was completely random but somehow i manage to still design an artwork obeying the concept of composition. The domination design took me the most time to do but it was my best artwork that i did (to me). Then i really like my repetition artwork because it showed detail in the design and the use of the letter A because my name starts with an A. The most challenging artwork for me was the Scale & Proportion artwork because i didnt really understand the full concept of it. In the end thanks to a sea documentary that my dad was watching i got an idea so i start designing it on scrap paper first before trying to do the actual design in Photoshop.

Principles Of Design
Assignment 1A : Mind Map

Lecture:
Class started with Ms Lisa introduce herself and explain briefly about what is Principles Of Design (POD) is all about. She went to through the model outline and explain about the TGC concept as well as how the POD classes can make us achieve those TGC criteria. Ms Lisa also told us that she would be away for the whole month because she would be flying off to London. Despite her absent she said Mr Ernesto will be looking after the class on Tuesday afternoon. For that day she gave our first assignment (1A) and we had to complete it by the next class which was in a few hours. In the afternoon class she reviewed our work and gave feedback on our drawings and effort that we put in to complete the assignment. In addition to that, after checking and going through all the other students's work she then gave another assignment (2A) to fill up the month that she was going to be away. Ms Lisa gave us 4 weeks to study about Art Movements from around the world and then pick an Art movement that represent ourself, then do a self portrait of ourself using that art movement. I was lucky enough that Ms Lisa said we could also print our final product, means that i could design and do it in the computer.

Instructions: Assignment 1A (Mind Map)
Having learned that Principles Of Design basically is our life as a design student. We had to think quick and know what we want to do something. Therefor, we had to know ourself.

1. Do a Mind map representing ourself and what is important in our lives.
2. Make your mind map easy to read and colourful as can be so that it will attract other people to see.

Assignment 2A : Self Portrait.

Instructions: Assignment 2A (Self Portrait)
Having research few art movement we have to choose one and do a self portrait of our self.

1. Do a Self portrait based to your choice of Art Movement
2. Your final product can be done on any type of material.
3. Paste your final product on a black A2 size mounting board with 2 inch border on the top & side. 3 inch for the bottom.

Research:-

My choice of Art movement is Low Poly Art. Basically, Low poly is a bunch of polygon merge to make 3D graphics. Low poly art occur in real-time applications (e.g. games) and contrast with high poly meshes in animated movies and special effects of the same era. The term low poly is used in both a technical and a descriptive sense; the number of polygons in a mesh is an important factor to optimize for performance but can give an undesirable appearance to the resulting graphics - Wikipedia.

The Final Product.

Synopsis (100 Words)

I Began by selecting a Passport picture of myself so it would actually be easier for me to construct the man small, medium and large triangle polygon that i will be doing it individual on my face. Then, by looking at the sample picture, i begin to start at the most difficult part which was doing the eyebrow and my eye. Those are the smallest part and has the most details. So it look me about a week just to finish a part of my eye.
It took me around 2 weeks to finish the rest of my face and filling all the empty spaces plus 1 week to do some minor touch up here and there. After that it took me few days to create the background which later i erase the rest of my body face and just pasted my face onto the background. Lastly i added my personal "AE" watermark just to state that its my artwork. Overall it was a very fun experience for me to try and do something that ive never done before. Im happy with my outcome and hope i can get good feedback.
